Outlook Park playground
Thank you to Eve McDonald-Madden for the initiative as well as Tanya, Jacqui, Di & Brad for all of their work to make the playground a reality, and to Councillor Helen Abrahams for her support.
The campaign started with some Gabba Hill families getting together to ask Brisbane City Council to install playground. They selected Outlook Park at Boggo Road. This location is very close to public transport (Park Road train station and Boggo Road busway station), Dutton Park Primary School, Dutton Park Police Station, Boggo Road Markets (Sundays), and Cafe Eco (weekdays). It also has a panoramic view with a BBQ and benches already installed.
Through word of mouth, posters and a rigorous letterbox-drop the local community was invited to a picnic at the proposed playground location as a way to meet neighbours, share ideas, garner support and sign a petition for the playground campaign. The picnic was held on Sunday 28th April 2013 with around 40 people attending including Councillor Helen Abrahams.

In May 2013 Helen took the petition (over 70 signatures) and letters of support from local businesses and organisations, such as the school P&C and the local cafe, to Council. In September 2013 Council gave approval and discussions began over what equipment to install within the funding budget. Residents met with the Parks Coordinator in October 2013 to discuss the plans.
After a bit of a lull in activity, residents chased up playground progress in February 2014, and in March the Council committed to progress the work and Helen Abrahams was able to sign off on the equipment. Construction finally began in late May 2014 and the park was open for use from 11 June 2014, much to the delight and excitement of many local families. Local families celebrated the opening of the playground with Helen Abrahams on Sunday 13th July 2014.
